Smart Cities - Traffic and urban planning effects of online trading
Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (2015-2018)
The study examines the possible effects of online trade on logistics, transport and urban development. Based on a theoretical collection of impact hypotheses, quantitative effects will be estimated as far as possible. The correlations proved in this way are transferred to three scenarios for the year 2030.
Innovations in intermodal transport
Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications DETEC (2017)
In cooperation with ETH Zurich (lead partner), KombiConsult and Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. Relocating truck bodies and semi-trailers to trains in order to protect the environment and relieve the strain on the roads - that's what combined transport is all about. At present, a large proportion of freight in Switzerland is already transported by rail. However, there are still a number of obstacles to further expansion, ranging from the organisation of the relocation to the high costs. Engineers are therefore constantly looking for innovations in combined transport that could make the concept more competitive. Prognos AG has systematically investigated a large number of these innovations.
Analysis of the use of long trucks with regard to their climate effects
State Institute for the Environment, Measurements and Nature Conservation Baden-Württemberg, Daimler AG (2017)
The study examines to what extent freight transport with trucks up to 25.25 metres long has an impact on the climate. Long trucks have been in regular service on German roads since the beginning of 2017. During a five-year field trial from 2012 to 2016, long trucks were allowed to be used on selected German roads - the so-called "positive net" - on a trial basis. Since new questions arose during the current field test in Baden-Württemberg, the state of Baden-Württemberg and Daimler AG decided to commission Prognos AG and thinkstep AG with the expert opinion. Prognos was responsible for calculating the demand for types of goods suitable for long trucks and for calculating the shift from conventional trucks and trains to long trucks.
On the road in Europe - flight and rail routes under test
Transport & Environment Brussels (2017)
Can high-speed trains replace short-haul flights on certain routes? Prognos investigated this question in a study for the Brussels organisation "Transport & Environment". The study results are based on a comparison of travel times, capacities and official traffic statistics.
