„I am pleased that I now get to give something back myself as a buddy.“
Maike Fließbach-Schendzielorz, Beraterin

Buddy – a mate, a companion, or a friend. The Buddy principle refers to the security provided by having a buddy, for example, in training or sports.

At Prognos, buddies give guidance to new colleagues. They help them navigate the company and familiarise them with the processes, they know where to find the best sandwiches or salads at lunchtime, they know the pitfalls of operational software (and the ways out), and they make sure that no one has to eat their lunch alone. In short: Buddies are contact people in everyday working situations.

By Prognos for Prognos

Since 2018, employees have been accompanying new colleagues in the first six months of their tenure. The idea came about at the first Woman Together event – organised by Prognos women for Prognos women. The staff had proposed a women’s buddy programme. However, the success soon spilled over to include our male colleagues and since 2020 the Buddy programme has been available for all new employees – male, female, other.

Across teams and departments

Prognos buddies have been in the company for at least two years and ideally, they work at the same location as the new colleague. If does not work out, personal exchange is organised across locations and a mutual visit is made possible. True to our interdisciplinary approach, however, a buddy does not necessarily have to work in the same specialist area – on the contrary: team-wide and cross-divisional tandems have proved their worth and are perceived as an enrichment for both sides. By the way: Even after the six months are done, the connection between new employees and their buddies often remains a very special one.
