A day that brings people together: Prognos supports the Münchner Tafel

In mid-September, 13 colleagues lent a hand at the Münchner Tafel. At four distribution points, they assisted the teams of volunteers: they took delivery of goods, sorted and packed food, and handed it out to visitors.

The scale of the work made a big impression on the participants: the Münchner Tafel supports over 22,000 people in need every week across 30 distribution points. This is made possible by the tefforts of numerous volunteers who help out every week.

The work itself also made a lasting impression: “Physically, it’s definitely harder work than a desk job,” Juliane Hasseberg reports with a wink. At the same time, she describes the day as “a very valuable and fulfilling experience,” during which she could see first-hand how their support was making a difference. She was particularly impressed by the fact that the distribution centre in Munich-Sendling alone provides for around 600 people.

For Philipp Hutzenthaler, the appeal of the day lay in the change of perspective: “Unlike in our normal everyday lives, you get to do something with your hands and, at the end of the day, see quite clearly what you’ve achieved.” It also provided opportunities to meet people one would otherwise rarely encounter: “Talking to friendly and grateful people and experiencing the team spirit at the food bank was a special experience. It helps you step out of your own bubble and focus on the realities of other people’s lives.”

Dr Michael Böhmer also draws a positive conclusion: “It was good that we were able to make a small contribution to people who are struggling more than we are.”

For the Munich team, the CSR Day was therefore far more than just a change of perspective from everyday office life: it demonstrated how important social cohesion and voluntary work are – and how much a single day can achieve.

The day at the Münchner Tafel is a prime example of social engagement at Prognos. Employees choose and initiate these projects themselves. Whether supporting refugees, educational projects or social initiatives such as the Tafel – they contribute their time, ideas and energy wherever they wish to help.
