She joined Prognos in 2002 after working for four years as a technical advisor in a state environment ministry and five years as a managing director in a state energy agency. Dr Kirchner's work focuses on model-based, long-term forecasts and scenarios of overall energy systems. She has managed numerous strategic projects on energy system and technology issues for the Federal Office of Energy, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the Federation of German Industries and WWF Germany, among others.
