In recent months the general conditions of the gas economy have changed fundamentally. Supply reliability, diversification of supply sources, the change in load flows, and the accelerated development of a hydrogen infrastructure are all topics that dominate current discussion.

On 6 July 2022, transmission system operators published an interim version of the Gas Network Development Plan 2022-2032. This document provides initial answers to the changed framework conditions.

Prognos supported transmission system operators in their preparation of the intermediate status of the Gas Network Development Plan 2022-2032.
The interim status of the Gas Network Development Plan 2022-2032 includes various LNG supply security variants for a partial replacement of Russian natural gas supplies. As part of the continuing process for the Gas Network Development Plan 2022-2032, further LNG variants will follow, which will completely replace Russian natural gas supplies.

In addition, the interim status shows the potential development of a hydrogen infrastructure. In the hydrogen variant, a hydrogen network with a pipeline length of up to 8,500 km is designated for the year 2032.
