North Rhine-Westphalia is determined to counter the tangible and future consequences of climate change. That is why the federal state adopted a climate adaptation strategy a few years ago and updated it again in 2024. The measures in the strategy are designed to make the state's cities, communities and businesses more resilient to the effects of climate change such as heat waves, storms and heavy rainfall.

One of these measures is the Resilience Expo, a trade exhibition for the climate adaptation industry. Prognos, together with VDI-TZ, Rebel Deutschland GmbH and CLIMATICON GmbH, is supporting the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of the Environment in planning and implementing this event over the next three years.

The first Expo kicked off in June 2025 at the Zeughaus in Neuss, attracting 300 participants from the worlds of politics, business, academia and civil society. On 10 June 2026, the second Resilience Expo will take place at the Hugo Junkers Hangar in Mönchengladbach, bringing together national and international stakeholders as the world’s first trade fair dedicated to the climate adaptation sector. The focus will be on practical solutions, technologies and services for adapting to climate change, as well as on knowledge exchange, networking and market development.

Resilience Expo: The world's first trade exhibition for climate adaptation

Many companies are already actively strengthening climate resilience with innovations such as extreme weather warning systems and green roofs. It is precisely these solutions that will be showcased at the Resilience Expo, the first trade fair dedicated to the climate adaptation sector.

The Expo is intended to become the leading trade fair for climate adaptation and its technologies and services, and to provide impetus as a structural development element in the Rhenish mining area. The aim is to strengthen and promote networking within the climate adaptation sector in North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as to showcase national and international solutions that can be implemented locally. This should improve the range of climate-resilience-enhancing products and services and open up further potential for companies.

Our approach

Our tasks include identifying and activating stakeholders, publicising the trade fair nationwide, developing an event concept with various key topics and providing scientific support for the climate adaptation industry in NRW. Using the Envigos model, we are mapping the part of the economy that is already dealing with adaptation to the consequences of climate change, enabling us to make regional, national and international statements about the most important sub-sectors and technologies in the adaptation economy.
