‘Discover Kassel’ is a mix of culture, sightseeing and team building. The programme item will take place on Thursday afternoon, 26 June from about 4 to 6 pm.Eight different selection option give you the opportunity to get to know Kassel with a variety of guided tours. Whether you prefer a leisurely bus tour, active walking tours or paddling on the Fulda – you decide what you want to discover in Kassel!Procedure: Each person usually has two options (a first and a second choice). If the first choice is overbooked, a lottery decides who would stay and who would be assigned to another activity (second choice).By registering for the Get Together, you have decided what you want to do in Kassel. City tour by bus | duration 2 h On a city tour by chartered bus, we learn everything worth knowing about the sights in the centre of Kassel as well as about Europe's largest mountain park, the Wilhelmshöhe. The route passes numerous attractions such as the Ottoneum, the Karlsaue with the Orangerie and the Kassel Congress Centre. A trip to the Hercules statue is, of course, not to be missed. A view from above of the mountain park with Wilhelmshöhe Palace and Löwenburg Castle rounds off the programme. The tour is in German. Previous Next 2. ‘Hiking tour’ from Hercules downhill to Wilhelmshöhe Palace | duration 2 h We take our chartered bus up to the Hercules and enjoy the magnificent view over Kassel. Since the fascinating water games only take place on Wednesdays and Sundays, we just miss them, but the ‘watercourse tour’ from Hercules downhill to Wilhelmshöhe Palace is just as exciting and thrilling – even without water. A total of 539 steps have to be climbed downhill – past the cascades, the Devil's Bridge, the aqueduct and finally down to the palace pond. Previous Next 3. Guided city tour with documenta highlights | duration 2 h On our tour, we will experience the eventful history of Kassel up close and get an overview of the many attractions of the documenta city. We will follow in the footsteps of the Grimm brothers through the city centre, marvel at impressive historical buildings and discover the numerous documenta outdoor works that are firmly anchored in the cityscape. The documenta is arguably the largest and most internationally significant exhibition of contemporary art, featuring works by artists from around the world. City crime thriller Kassel | duration 2 h While you explore Kassel, you will not only be enriched with interesting facts, but you will also actively take on the role of solving a criminal case right on the spot. Slip into the role of an investigator and solve a tricky murder case in the city centre or in the picturesque Bergpark. Or take on the challenge of preventing the theft of the ‘Saskia by Rembrandt’. Guided tour of the Grimmwelt | duration 1,5 h During the guided tour, we will get an overview of the numerous topics covered by Grimmwelt and new insights into the life and work of the Brothers Grimm. What does happiness mean and what is a Froteufel? Where do the stairs lead us, where does Little Red Riding Hood's path lead? Who is hiding in the thorn hedge? What curiosities does the German language hold? Let's follow the entries from the Grimm dictionary across the alphabet and discover interesting and surprising facts in the Grimmwelt, interactive elements, artistic installations and valuable originals. All exhibition texts in Grimmwelt are bilingual (German and English). All floors of Grimmwelt are accessible via a lift. On the ground floor and on the first floor, there is a barrier-free toilet. Guided tour Viktoriabunker | duration 1h Equipped with helmets and torches, we explore the extensive underground area of a historic beer and ice storage cellar, which was converted into a public air-raid shelter during the Second World War. The route leads through the impressive entrance structure into the dark depths of the cellar. We enter a gas lock, see buried areas, ancient vaults, discover original dry toilets and hear the account of an eyewitness. On the exciting tour through the dark labyrinth of the facility, light is shed on the history of the place and the people during the Nazi era. Photography is not allowed on the tour! The tour is in German and not barrier-free. Equipment: Sturdy clothing (temperature in the facilities all year round approx. 12° to 14°), sturdy shoes, torch. Previous Next 7. Canoeing on the Fulda | duration 1,5 h We will paddle along the Fulda in a three-person canoe and enjoy the impressive panorama of North Hessen. After a professional introduction at the Auedamm, the tour on the water begins and, depending on the weather, your strength and your good humour, the tour will take about 1.5 hours.
