Prognos is working with an interdisciplinary team from various fields and business areas to analyse the effects of profound changes in the transport system, particularly in terms of the economy, the environment and society. One scenario under consideration is strongly oriented towards the common good and relies on a Germany-wide mobility guarantee provided by public transport, which would result in a sharp decline in private transport. We have used a wide range of methods and assumptions to analyse the various scenarios.Presentation: Nico Dietzsch & Karuan AswadR2 (GF): CSR Award from the German Federal GovernmentThe German Federal Government, under the auspices of the BMAS, has awarded prizes in the 2024/2025 competition round to projects in companies that demonstrate how corporate due diligence can be implemented in five areas along the supply and value chain.Prognos was the scientific partner and analysed the submitted projects in a challenging short period of time, conducted comprehensive interviews on site at the companies and presented the results to a high-calibre jury. The award winners (including Schwalbe, Melitta and Schwartauer) impressively demonstrate the extent to which corporate commitment can contribute to fair supply chains.Presentation: Claudia Münch & Johanna Dräger Gebhard R3 (GF): Communication services for public relations work on the expansion of the LSW Netz electricity grid in the Wolfsburg and Gifhorn areaLSW Netz Wolfsburg became aware of the Planning & Dialogue team as a partner for strategic communication support in planning and approval processes through one of our clients in the electricity grid expansion sector. After initial meetings, an initial offer for a basic workshop and technical support during the tendering process, a new framework agreement partner was secured. Since then, Prognos has been providing support in areas such as acceptance communication and dialogue with regional stakeholders regarding the expansion of the 110 kV distribution network in the Gifhorn/Wolfsburg area in order to strengthen it against the backdrop of increasing volumes of renewable energies. Our services include stakeholder management, the design and implementation of various participation and information formats, and process-accompanying analyses. This has already led to the initiation of a second Prognos project for the client.Presentation: Jutta Struwe, Hendrik Schramm & Jannik ZoubekR4 (GF): International electricity price comparison for AustriaIs expensive electricity to blame for everything? The electricity industry in Austria is under political pressure: ‘Industrial electricity prices are too high and companies in Austria are no longer competitive due to high electricity prices,’ is the accusation. We were commissioned by the Association of the Electricity Industry in Austria to bring objectivity to the discussion and present the facts. To this end, we compared international industrial electricity prices and analysed the reasons for the differences. But how important are electricity prices really for the competitiveness of companies? To answer this question, we analysed the electricity intensity of companies and compared it with that of the most important competitor.Based on these results, we made recommendations for government instruments that would contribute in a targeted manner to reducing electricity costs for companies in Austria.Presentation: Sven Kreidelmeyer & Fabian Muralter R5 (FF): Prognos goes Space: Starting a Rocket to Make Business in New OrbitsAerospace is not science fiction, but a diverse economic and industrial topic with highly relevant security and defence implications for a sovereign and resilient Germany and Europe. When research and development join forces with business and industry, as well as politics and society, to commit to aerospace, a socio-economic success story can emerge. With its analysis of the potential regional economic implications of aerospace in Cologne/Bonn, Prognos has put one foot in the rocket. Now it is time to climb aboard and take our place in the cockpit so that we can set a new course and pioneer a potential new business field. The project is being implemented for the SLR and Cologne Bonn Airport.Presentation: Christian Schoon, Til Ulbricht & Tim Kaltenthaler 10 min. break / change room11:30–12:00 a.m. | Second roundR1 (GF): ‘For strong and liveable regions in Germany’ – spatial impact of the pan-German funding systemHow equal are living conditions across German regions? Gain insight into the German government's 2024 Equality Report. Prognos played a key role in this fundamental report: Together with Philipps University of Marburg and Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, we examined how the overall German subsidy system affects German regions. This was done using, among other things, an advanced method for measuring direct and indirect regional economic effects. In addition, we worked with Verian and the Berlin Institute for Population and Development to analyse the current status of efforts to achieve equal living conditions. Prognos developed a differentiated set of suitable indicators at the regional level over a longer ex-post period of five to ten years. A broad-based survey, also conducted at regional level, asked citizens how they perceive and assess aspects of equal living conditions in Germany.Presentation: Dr Jonathan Eberle & Bernhard WankmüllerRE2 (GF): Review Human Frontier Science Program A multilateral funding programme that has produced 31 Nobel Prize winners must be successful, right? There's no need to evaluate it! Its success surely proves that the programme is right, but there is certainly room for improvement. The Human Frontier Science Programme was founded in 1989 by the G7 countries on the initiative of Japan. It is a globally oriented funding programme that promotes groundbreaking research in the life sciences. The various programme lines are extremely excellence-oriented and give researchers maximum freedom. The funded projects are intended to advance the state of research and push scientific boundaries (‘high risk, high reward projects’). Together with our partner ‘digital science’, we will work out whether boundaries are continuing to be pushed and what can be improved.Presentation: Dr Thomas Stehnken, Michael Astor & Jakobus JaspersenR3 (GF): ‘Making value contributions visible’ – social value contributions made by the RAG FoundationAs part of two completed projects and one ongoing project, we are supporting the RAG Foundation in quantifying and communicating the social value contribution of its activities and those of its affiliated companies.Focus of Project 1: Methodologically sound allocation of operating expenses and investments of the RAG Foundation and its affiliated companies to selected SDGs. Calculation of upstream economic effects.Focus of Project 2: Regional value contribution of selected showcase projectsFocus of Project 3: Value contribution of financing in the area of education promotionAcquisition process: The concrete starting point was a joint workshop with Dr Michale Böhmer, Christian Böllhoff, Claudia Münch and Dr Jan Trenczek. Building on this exchange, we held follow-up discussions and then prepared an offer. The RAG Foundation is an entrepreneurial foundation that takes on and finances the perpetual obligations and legacy issues of the German coal mining industry. It also promotes education, science and culture in the former coal mines.Presentation: Claudia Münch & Philipp Kreuzer R4 (GF): Business case for heating networksThe Agora study offers the first practical insight into the decarbonisation of district heating: it shows what an economic and affordable business case for district heating of the future could look like. Using concrete case studies, it calculates how decarbonisation can be achieved – and what costs are involved. Based on this, measures are proposed that create a viable economic framework for district heating suppliers while also curbing price increases for customers. The results also mark the start of the ‘FW-Dispatch’ investment project.Presentation: Noha SaadR5 (FF): Working hours survey of teachers in Saxony ‘Teachers work almost 50 hours per week’ – this is what some headlines have been saying in recent years. In fact, teachers' working hours are not fixed, but vary depending on additional tasks related to teaching. In order to determine how much time teachers work in total and how this time is distributed across specific tasks, the Saxon State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs commissioned Prognos to conduct a representative study – the first mandatory study of its kind in Germany. The study covers almost 5,000 teachers and school administrators from all types of schools in Saxony, who use a time tracking tool to record their working hours in approximately 20 specific categories on a daily basis. The study covers a full school year, including holidays, in order to track the distribution of working hours throughout the year.Presentation: Eva Moser, Maria Villamayor & Mattes Fischer 10 min. break / change room 12:15–12:45 a.m. | third roundR1 (GF): Germany's industrial resilience and strategic sovereigntyThe focus was on qualitative analyses of four value chains. These examples were intended to show where German industry is dependent on supplies from countries that are considered uncertain trading partners due to their authoritarian regimes. The focus was on the People's Republic of China as a key player with extensive raw material reserves. The analysis also included preliminary and intermediate products in which the PRC has also established a monopoly-like market position. Recommendations were developed based on the results. These reflect current European and national resilience efforts (CRMA, NZIA) and are aimed at policymakers, associations, trade unions and companies. The study was prepared for the Netzwerk Zukunft der Industrie e.V. (Network for the Future of Industry).Presentation: Michael Astor & Dr Eva Dantas R2 (GF): The economic importance of visitors and exhibitors at trade fairs in GermanyBREAKING: This is what business travellers REALLY spend their money on – a Prognos team investigates. The AUMA trade fair association and participating exhibition venues have commissioned Prognos to conduct impact analyses so that they can communicate to their political and social stakeholders which economic sectors benefit from trade fairs and conferences, both regionally and across Germany. Large-scale surveys determine how much and on what visiting trade fair participants spend their money. The survey results are extrapolated to all trade fair participants in Germany and, using input-output accounting, the economic effects are calculated locally for individual trade fair locations and for Germany as a whole. At GTO, we provide an initial insight into the spending of trade fair visitors, the project methodology and explain how impact analyses support the association and individual trade fair companies in their communications.Presentation: Jakob Ambros & Eva WillerR3 (GF): Ex-Post Evaluation – Cohesion Policy Support to RTDI 2014-2020 The aim of this evaluation was to assess the effectiveness, efficiency, relevance, coherence and EU added value of innovation support through the ERDF in accordance with the European Commission's Better Regulation Guidelines. The funding period was 2014–2020.Due to the longer duration of funding, project implementation and the materialisation of effects in the context of innovation support, new methodological approaches were necessary. For the first time, we used AI-supported impact tracing to identify and quantify impact chains and emerging effects.Presentation: Dr Jan-Philipp Kramer, Dr Georg Klose, Johanna Thierstein & Paulius Mater- Pranskevicius & Markus ZockR4 (GF): German-Jordanian Energy Partnership: Fact-finding mission on energy statisticsOn behalf of the official sponsor of the German-Jordanian Energy Partnership (dena on behalf of BMWE), Prognos was asked to act as a specialist partner for questions relating to energy statistics, digitalisation and modelling. The request took our experts to the Jordanian capital Amman and into the heart of the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR). How fortunate that one of us speaks fluent Arabic... 😉Presentation: Mohammad Alkasabreh & Friedrich SeefeldtR5 (FF): Market development using the example of several daycare centre projects for the Hessian Ministry of Social AffairsSmall people – big market. The topic of childcare is not only important to families, but also to the federal government, state governments and local authorities. The tasks are enormous. They range from expanding the range of services on offer and securing the supply of skilled workers to further developing quality. All this must be done in the context of scarce resources and an increasingly diverse society. For around five years, we have been convincing more and more clients that we are a valuable partner in helping them to tackle these challenges. This has been made possible by the broad expertise we have built up, our close and trusting cooperation with our clients, and our strategic networking with academia and practitioners. As a result, we have been able to win a significant share of this market. Our latest new client – the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs – commissioned us last year to carry out two (large) evaluations in parallel; we are aiming for two follow-up commissions. We would also like to share with you what we have learned from entering this new market field.Presentation: Gwendolyn Huschik, Johanna Nicodemus, Anna Marina Schmidt & Dr Dagmar Weßler-Poßberg 12:45 a.m. End of project fair / lunch Programme & schedule All information about the programme items and the schedule.
