When it comes to expanding the electricity grid for the energy transition, transmission lines on the major north-south axes dominate public debate in Germany. However, also regional distribution networks are indispensable for the success of the energy transition.
In northern Germany in particular, distribution grids must absorb the electricity generated from renewable energies before it can be transferred to the transmission grid and transported from there to consumption regions throughout Germany.
In Schleswig-Holstein, E.ON subsidiary Schleswig-Holstein Netz is responsible for operating and expanding the 110-kilovolt distribution grid.
The company is implementing projects to increase transmission capacity and security of supply: Existing high-voltage lines are being partially replaced by new, more powerful lines or newly built, substations are being modernised and added.
In order for grid expansion projects to be successfully implemented locally, they must be accepted by local residents. To this end, all relevant stakeholders are informed and involved at an early stage and on an ongoing basis as part of the accompanying project communication.
Prognos advises Schleswig-Holstein Netz on the strategic orientation of its grid expansion communication and facilitates dialogue with stakeholders throughout the planning and approval process as well as during the construction phase.
The focus is on organising and implementing analogue and digital event formats and providing ongoing information via various media.
We have been working for Schleswig-Holstein Netz since 2006. In addition to a large number of projects already completed, we are currently supporting the distribution network operator in more than ten line construction projects, both in approval planning and in communication support during construction until commissioning.

Our study identifies the key cost components for low-carbon blue and green hydrogen and calculates the cost of supplying hydrogen to industry.
Prognos examined for the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor, Energy and Climate Protection of the State of Brandenburg what role CO2 capture, usage and storage could play in the state.
Grid operator TenneT has put an important power line into operation in Lower Saxony. Prognos supported the communication for the project.
Prognos supports transmission and distribution system operators in the planning and construction communication of the various power line construction projects at the extra-high and high-voltage level.
Austria wants a hydrogen network in place by 2030. We investigated how the development of this network can be financed on behalf of the Austrian Climate Protection Ministry.
The extension of the energy network lays the foundation for the energy transition. Since 2019, Prognos has been supporting transmission system operator TenneT TSO GmbH with their project communication concerning the establishment of the new West Coast transmission line in Schleswig-Holstein.
Our study for the vbw compares electricity and gas prices for industry worldwide and provides a price development outlook up to the year 2030.
In the medium and long term, average wholesale electricity prices are above the 2019/2020 level. Our updated scenarios for the vbw.
How much LNG can it be? Prognos prepared two studies for the German government's Science Platform for Climate Protection (WPKS) to address this question.
One potential building block: the Federal Network Agency commissioned Prognos to conduct a study that can support the necessary assessment in the case of gas shortages.
