ADAC Mobility Index

General German Automobile Club e.V. (ADAC)

Year

ongoing

Transport demand is continuing to rise and there are various causes for this. But how can the consequences be managed and mobility be made sustainable? For the first time in 2022, the ADAC commissioned Prognos AG with the development of a science- and data-based evaluation method. The result: the ADAC Mobility Index.

The task of our project team as a scientific partner is to develop the methodological and con-tent basis for the annually published analysis. Since 2015, it has tracked Germany and the individual federal states’ development on their path to sustainable mobility structures. The five dimensions of the mobility index considered are:

  • transport safety
  • climate and environment
  • availability
  • reliability
  • affordability

Database and structure of the mobility index

The ADAC Mobility Index is not only the title of the regularly published analysis – it is also an index that condenses several key figures. At the first subordinate level of the hierarchy, the index consists of the five evaluation dimensions mentioned above.
These assessment dimensions consist of 16 leading indicators and are described by 39 indica-tors.

It is based on a database with around 1,500 statistical characteristics. Most of the data in-cluded in the mobility index is derived from publicly available statistics – authorities and ministries, trade associations, and companies.
