The Climate and Energy Fund has launched the Rail4Climate funding programme, a project aimed at sustainably increasing capacity and efficiency in the Austrian rail sector.
Four calls for proposals will fund cooperative research and development projects focusing on three key areas: digital operations control, sector-wide data use and automated maintenance.
To comprehensively monitor the progress and impact of these projects, a detailed impact monitoring system will be implemented, which will also include an accompanying evaluation and dissemination process.
A central component of this accompanying measure is the development of an indicator-based evaluation system based on the proven IOOI model (Input–Output–Outcome–Impact). This system not only enables precise evaluation at the individual project level, but also provides important insights into the achievement of objectives, impact and sectoral relevance of the entire programme.
To ensure a broad exchange of ideas and visibility of the results, Prognos is organising several specialist conferences that specifically promote dialogue between practitioners, researchers and policymakers. This event format is complemented by an interactive programme website and audiovisual communication formats designed by our partners. These measures not only strengthen the networking of the actors involved, but also make a key contribution to the evidence-based further development of the programme.

Prognos is assessing the potential for decarbonising thermal waste treatment through the use of resource-saving and energy-efficient CO₂ capture and processing technologies.
How effective are the measures proposed by Germany’s federal ministries for the upcoming climate protection programme? Prognos and its partners examined the feasibility of the planned climate protection measures and analysed their impact on the climate.
The network Klimaanpassung&Unternehmen.NRW (NKU) offers exchange, knowledge and market information on climate adaptation in North Rhine-Westphalia. Prognos is leading the network together with partners.
What is the status of the energy transition in Germany? Since 2012, Prognos has been monitoring the energy transition in Bavaria and Germany on behalf of the vbw.
Energy prices remain high, and the expansion of renewable energies continues to fall short of targets: this is shown by our 14th Energy Transition Monitoring report, which we compiled on behalf of the vbw.
