Cancer and other non-communicable diseases contribute significantly to the burden of disease in Europe, with many cases being preventable. To strengthen prevention, a coalition of European countries launched the Joint Action Prevent Non-Communicable Diseases (JA PreventNCD) in 2024.
Funded by the EU4Health programme with 95 million euros (76 million euros of which comes from the EU budget), the project will promote cooperation between Member States and the exchange of best practices until 2027, representing a significant step forward in the prevention of non-communicable diseases and cancer in Europe.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), which is leading the internal technical evaluation of JA PreventNCD, has commissioned Prognos to conduct an external evaluation of the overarching work packages. The aim of the external evaluation is to assess the effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability of JA PreventNCD and to identify opportunities for optimisation in the overarching structures.
