The creative report from CREATIVE.NRW provides facts and figures about the creative industries in NRW in order to sharpen society's focus on the performance of the creative industries. The data was collected and evaluated by Prognos.
The cultural and creative industries in North Rhine-Westphalia are an efficient economic sector and an important employment market in the region. With a turnover of around 39 billion Euro generated in 2018, it represents almost a quarter of the national turnover in this branch and its 742,100 Euro turnover per company, is significantly above the national average of 653,300 Euro.

More than half of the roughly 300,000 people employed in the creative industries in NRW are subject to social security contributions. Based on the number of people in employment, this industry branch ranks second after the metal industry. With a proportion of 29 per cent academics, the education level is well above average. The proportion of women in nine of the eleven sub-markets of the creative industries is also above the average for the North Rhine-Westphalian economy as a whole. Only in the software/games industry and the music branch are women underrepresented.
