How can the expansion of renewable energies in the EU be accelerated?
Our project with COWI A/S and Eclareon for the Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER) of the European Commission aims to help EU countries overcome obstacles to the expansion of renewable energies. To this end, we have examined approval and administrative processes at national, regional and local level.
The final report identifies eight priority areas in which member states should take measures to simplify and accelerate approvals:
Our insights come from a comprehensive analysis in all 27 EU member states, which focussed on current and planned measures to accelerate renewable energy projects. In addition, we have created a knowledge database of best practices for approval procedures that serves as a valuable resource for member states.

Prognos has been providing communications support for the network expansion of distribution network operator Schleswig-Holstein Netz since 2006.
In recent years, Europe has maintained its strong position in the global market for clean energy technologies, but faces growing competition. On behalf of the European Commission, we examined the competitiveness of these technologies.
How effective are EU cohesion and structural policies in driving green change in Europe? We examined this and other questions together with COWI, Milieu and CSIL on behalf of the European Commission (DG REGIO).
The Federal Ministry of Economics promotes digital technologies that drive forward the economy’s green transformation. Together with partners, we are responsible for the accompanying research.
Traffic jams and train delays increased significantly. But there were slight improvements in all other dimensions of the ADAC Mobility Index 2025.
For the European Observation Network for Territorial Development and Cohesion (ESPON), we are investigating how regions can work together more effectively to protect the climate.

The Swiss Federal Office of Energy is planning to redesign its energy strategy for the period up to 2060. Under the leadership of Prognos, various scenarios are being developed for a secure and sustainable energy future for Switzerland. The focus is on the question of how rising electricity demand can be met in the future.
The Republic of Austria promotes numerous energy efficiency measures. Prognos analysed these measures and drew up recommendations for further development.
To facilitate the transition to a climate-neutral economy, Prognos is supporting the European Commission in implementing the European Fair Transition Observatory (EFTO).
