Market analysis for energy services

Client

Federal Agency for Energy Efficiency

Year

2017

How is the economic environment of energy service providers developing? Prognos investigated this question on behalf of the Federal Agency for Energy Efficiency, together with two research partners.

The energy services market is continuing to grow. The drivers for growth are as diverse as the suppliers' product range – everything from energy consulting to complex contracting models.

One reason for the development of the market is that the number of energy transition professionals is increasing. In recent years, a large number of providers have established themselves on the market – including classic service providers such as municipal utilities as well as new providers with digital business models.

These are the results of a market analysis carried out by Prognos together with research partners on behalf of the Federal Agency for Energy Efficiency (BfEE). Together with the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research, and Kantar EMNID, our Prognos experts analysed the markets for energy consulting, energy management, and energy contracting. To this end, the research partners surveyed around 3,000 households, 3,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and 1,500 energy service providers.

The BfEE has commissioned Prognos and their research partners to conduct a follow-up study. The new study also envisages a broad involvement of all market players.
